CCoVA Rally Week
January 18 – 22, 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the many restrictions during the 2021 General Assembly session, CCoVA members were unable to host a Rally Day or meet with legislators in person. Instead, there was a Rally Week where members were encouraged to communicate with legislators and provide education on important topics. A virtual Rally Week Kickoff was hosted by CCoVA with Dr. Mary Crozier presenting data and information about marijuana during a webinar on January 14, 2021.
CCoVA monitored 66 bills during the 2021 General Assembly session: 6 on Heroin/Opioids, 15 on Cannabis/THC/Marijuana/Hemp, 24 on Alcohol, 11 on Tobacco/Nicotine, and 10 on other related topics. A significant law that passed was the legalization of marijuana in Virginia. It is legal to possess up to one ounce without criminal or civil penalty as of July 1, 2021, and is will be legal to cultivate, manufacture, sell, and buy marijuana (21 years and over) effective July 1, 2024.
